Privacy Policy
Last updated 30 June 2026. Map Measurer is a free, browser-based map measuring tool. We collect very little, and this page explains exactly what happens to your data — in plain English.
The short version
- There is no account and no login.
- We do not store your routes, measurements or location on any server.
- Your measuring happens entirely in your browser.
- Advertising cookies are only set after you accept on our consent banner. If you decline, no advertising cookies are placed.
Who we are
This site is Map Measurer (mapmeasurer.com). For any privacy question, contact us at hello@mapmeasurer.com.
Information processed in your browser
When you plot points, draw a radius or trace a route, those coordinates exist only in your browser tab. They are not transmitted to us and are gone when you clear the map or close the page. We keep your unit preference (km/miles) and your cookie-consent choice in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them — these stay on your device.
Location (geolocation)
The "use my location" button asks your browser for your position, and only runs if you grant permission. Your coordinates are used solely to centre the map on your device and are not stored or sent to us.
Third-party services
To function, Map Measurer loads resources from, or sends requests to, the following providers. Each may receive your IP address and the request itself as part of delivering the service, under their own privacy policies:
- Map tiles — CARTO & OpenStreetMap. Imagery and base-map data.
- Place search — OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Receives the text you type in the search box to return matching places.
- Elevation — Open-Meteo. Receives the coordinates along a route when you request an elevation profile.
- Fonts — Google Fonts. Serves the typefaces used on the page.
- Advertising — Google AdSense. Serves the ads that fund the site, once you have consented (see below).
Cookies and advertising
Map Measurer shows ads from Google AdSense to stay free. The advertising script — and the cookies or similar identifiers Google and its partners use to serve and measure ads — is only loaded after you click "Accept" on our consent banner. If you click "Decline", the advertising script is not loaded and those cookies are not set. We store a single value in your browser's local storage to remember that choice so we don't ask you on every visit.
Essential storage (your consent choice and unit preference) is used regardless, because it's needed for the site to work and remember your decision.
You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's storage in your browser; the banner will then appear again on your next visit. You can review and control how Google uses data for advertising at policies.google.com/technologies/ads, and opt out of personalised advertising at google.com/settings/ads.
Your rights (UK GDPR / GDPR)
Where data-protection law applies to you, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Because we don't hold an account or a profile about you, there is very little on our side to act on — but you can still contact us at hello@mapmeasurer.com and we'll respond. For data held by the third parties listed above (including Google for advertising), please also refer to their own privacy policies and controls. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
Data retention
We do not operate a user database, so there is no personal data for us to retain. Standard, short-lived server and CDN logs may be kept by our hosting provider for security and reliability. Cookies set by Google for advertising are retained according to Google's own retention periods.
Children
Map Measurer is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will change with it.
